ONE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SEVEN

Men rest at the bottom of the harbor, encased in the Arizona's rusty hull.
In the Navy's known history, there has never been a ship that has taken so many of its crew down with her.

The guns of distant battles fell silent long ago, but unanswered questions concerning United States servicemen missing in action and unrepatriated prisoners of war continue to concern the nation.

Holocaust Victims

Victims of the Holocaust
They also must never be forgotten

The Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by the Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945. In 1933 approximately nine million Jews lived in the 21 countries of Europe that would be occupied by Germany during World War II. By 1945 two out of every three European Jews had been killed. Jews were the primary victims -- six million were murdered.
Roma (Gypsies), the handicapped and Poles were also targeted for destruction or decimation for racial, ethnic or national reasons. Millions more, including Soviet prisoners of war, political dissidents, homosexuals and Jehovah's Witnesses suffered grievous oppression and death under Nazi tyranny.

NOTE: Over 8,000 servicemen were once considered Missing In Action from the Korean War. Of those Missing In Action, unidentified remains of over 800 of these servicemen are buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at the Punchbowl, Honolulu, Hawaii.

It is important to understand that officially, all MIA's have been designated dead, body not recovered, or remains recovered but not identified.

John Campisi

It began in August of 1990. Military elements of Iraq crossed into Kuwait and occupied the country. The United States undertook the largest and fastest mobilization ever to deploy combat forces to Saudi Arabia. Every member of the United States military was a volunteer. The combat operations in Southwest Asia showed the world how well the United States military was trained and how well its people were motivated. On April 11, 1991, when the war officially ended, 375 U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and one Army civilian had died in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
